Busted! FCPA Guidance stars in House of Cards

Dear FCPA Blog – Another anonymous tip for you: In the 7th episode of this season’s House of Cards, Claire Underwood (the first lady) is on Air Force One with a stack of papers on the table in front of her.  On top of the stack — clear as day once you pause it — the FCPA Resource Guide. Your readers might be amused by this.

Here’s a screen grab from the scene and a magnified image showing the detail:

  1. I am amused, yes.

  2. I saw it too!! Great post and photos to prove it.

But, can anyone figure out how it fits into the plot? Why show it at that moment? Does it have literary or Shakespearean iconic status?

For example, is it a prefiguring of the First Lady, who is kind of evil in a Lady McBeth way, having moral awakening to the responsibility of power – and the FCPA-like downfall when the forces of responsible governance collectively rise up! Out out darn bribery?!

  3. This was there so that the world would think FCPA matters when in fact I do whatever I please…
