Resource Alert: Certificate in Financial Markets Compliance (Online)

Regulatory change is rampant and the financial industry is in critical need of professionals with the ability to navigate highly complex laws and regulations. The increased attention on compliance has revealed a gap in education and training for professionals who must keep pace with new regulations, financial products, and technologies.

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law has concentrated its focus in fulfilling this knowledge gap. Drawing upon IIT Chicago-Kent’s extensive expertise in compliance in the financial markets, it will launch a new online Certificate in Financial Markets Compliance (FMC) on September 8, 2015 — developed for new and junior professionals looking to enter or advance in the compliance field.

IIT Chicago-Kent is at the forefront of financial compliance. Its industry foresight led it to establish the Institute for Financial Markets Compliance four years ago. Its mission is to increase knowledge of the importance of compliance and prepare students for careers in financial compliance and regulation. The online Certificate in Financial Markets Compliance program will provide non J.D. students the opportunity to gain the essential knowledge and skills required in various types of financial institutions.

In the FMC program students learn how to analyze regulations and laws, think broadly about policy issues, understand how markets and various types of financial instruments function in a global financial environment, and study how to spot red flags, conduct investigations and deal with the regulators. The curriculum runs for seven months and the six courses are taught by financial services compliance professionals and law and business school professors. The program is offered in the fall, spring, and summer terms with the inaugural class starting September 8th. Scholarships are available for the fall cohort.

Now, as the demand for risk and compliance professionals continues to grow, there is a program that can prepare professionals to respond to the compliance challenges of today and the future.
