Zhang Yinghuan, former deputy mayor of Sanmenxia city in Henan Province, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for taking bribes of over $1.15 million. Zhang was convicted of accepting 72 bribes including cash and property in return to favor bribe-givers in contract awarding, land-use and job promotion. http://news.xinhuanet.com

Wu Baoliang, former party secretary of the Xiaoxian County in Anhui Province, has been sentenced to life in prison for taking 109 bribes worth $3.1 million from real estate developers and engineering contractors seeking land-use permit and relocation projects. Wu also helped Wu Xiuzhi, general manager of Anhui Wanwang Flour Group Co Ltd, obtain land-development project and national bond project. http://news.xinhuanet.com

Fan Xinjian, former deputy party secretary and president of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Sichuan province, has been dismissed from office and stripped of his party membership for taking a huge amount of bribes. Sources with knowledge of the case said that Fan was involved in corruption related to the university’s new campus building. http://www.chinanews.com 

Li Qingsuo, former water bureau director in Mizhi county, Shaanxi province, has been removed from his position for using some $16,331 of public funds to build a road to his ancestral grave. Li was exposed by a netizen online in last November for illegally using public funds to build a 1-km road from the village of Jicha, Li’s hometown, to an ancestral grave on top of a mountain, which was criticized as superstition. Local water bureau claimed the road to be part of the village’s water project and the case is undergoing discipline investigation. http://epaper.oeeee.com 

Li Rongbiao, former vice captain of the public security team in Sichuan province, has been arrested under criminal charges of taking $5 million in bribes.  Local police officers said Li abused his power to accept bribes from explosives manufacturers while he was in charge of approving the purchase, transportation and sales of explosives. http://www.bjnews.com.cn 

Liu Yingxia, chairwoman of real estate developer Harbin Xiangying Group, has been stripped of her membership of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee for unspecified reasons. Local media disclosed that Liu is suspected of paying bribes and linked to a corruption scandal at the China National Petroleum Corp where several senior executives are under graft probe. http://jingji.21cbh.com
