Qiu Chunlei, former deputy director of Guangzhou City Health Bureau, was tried for accepting bribes of $672,131 offered by his mistress Cao Shujun, a medical equipment supplier, in exchange for helping her win supply contracts. Qiu pleaded not guilty, claiming he was forced by investigators to admit the charges.

Xu Minjie, former vice president of state-owned shipping company China COSCO Holdings Co Ltd, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzlement. He claimed nearly $50,700 from company funds to support his wife’s personnel trips.

Dai Shiyou, former deputy head of Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau at Fangchenggang City in Guangxi province, was sentenced to 11 years for taking $37,288 in bribes from Dongxing city Hongwei Food Co Ltd, Dongxing city Xianbagui Food Processing Co Ltd and other food producers, in exchange for allowing them to sell toxic chicken feet.

The former general manager of state-owned Zhejiang Zhongsheng Industry Co Ltd, Feng Kangrui, was jailed for life after being found guilty of embezzling over $4.9 million in company funds along with His son Feng Yi and four others.

Li Dongguang, former vice president of Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco) and former general manager of China Aluminum International Trading Company Ltd, has been charged with taking bribes of unspecified amount.

Liang Chunhuo, former party chief of China Mobile Group Guangdong Co Ltd’s Guangzhou branch, was tried on charges of taking more than $490,637 in bribes to seek benefits for others in project bidding and equipment procurement.
