Qiu Chunlei, former deputy director of Guangzhou City Health Bureau, was tried for accepting bribes of $672,131 offered by his mistress Cao Shujun, a medical equipment supplier, in exchange for helping her win supply contracts. Qiu pleaded not guilty, claiming he was forced by investigators to admit the charges. http://gzdaily.dayoo.com

Xu Minjie, former vice president of state-owned shipping company China COSCO Holdings Co Ltd, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzlement. He claimed nearly $50,700 from company funds to support his wife’s personnel trips. http://bjcb.morningpost.com.cn

Dai Shiyou, former deputy head of Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau at Fangchenggang City in Guangxi province, was sentenced to 11 years for taking $37,288 in bribes from Dongxing city Hongwei Food Co Ltd, Dongxing city Xianbagui Food Processing Co Ltd and other food producers, in exchange for allowing them to sell toxic chicken feet. http://news.jcrb.com
