The Royal Canadian Mounted Police charged two U.S. citizens and a U.K. national Wednesday with violating the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act.
Americans Robert Barra and Dario Bernini, the former CEO and COO of CryptoMetrics Inc., and Briton Shailesh Govindia, an agent for the company, were also charged with one count of fraud.
Warrants were issued for the three men, according to Sam Rubenfeld of the Wall Street Journal.
The RCMP alleged that the defendants were part of a failed bribery scheme by CryptoMetrics Canada to win a $100 million contract from Air India to supply facial-recognition software.
An Ottawa court convicted the former head of CryptoMetrics’ India office last year for conspiracy to bribe Indian officials, including a government minister.
Nazir Karigar was sentenced to three years in prison in late May.
Barra and Bernini were charged under Section 3.1 of the CFPOA, which bars giving, offering or agreeing to offer a bribe to a foreign public official, the Wall Street Journal said.
