Fan Zengyu, former director of the Foreign Capital Project Management Centre of the State Council’s Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, was tried for embezzlement, bribery and fraud involving nearly $9.9 million. Fan had embezzled poverty-aid funds donated by Ding Yuxin, also known as Ding Shumiao, former chairwoman of Beijing Boyou Investment Management Corp. Xu Long, general manager and party secretary of China Mobile Communications Corp’s Guangdong office, was expelled from the Communist Party for severe discipline violations. Guangdong discipline authorities said Xu had committed crimes by taking advantage of his position to seek benefits for bribe-givers. Liu Xueku, former director of Hebei provincial development and Reform Commission, has been placed under discipline investigations.
