Han Shuming, former head of Changshou District in Chongqing Municipality, was sentenced to 14 years jail for accepting bribes worth $724,680. Han had abused his position to assist two businessmen surnamed Jiang and Li to obtain land leasing and construction contracts. Feng Binghui, a middleman who funneled bribes to Han for the two businessmen, was given a five-year jail term for taking $148,238 in bribes.

Wu Zhizhong, former vice secretary-general of Inner Mongolia’s regional government, was sentenced to life imprisonment for embezzlement, bribery and misappropriation. Wu embezzled state funds of up to $1.69 million. He and his wife Yu Huilong took $898,626 in bribes and misappropriated $5.6 million state funds. Yu was handed a nine-year jail term.

Huang Hu, former secretary to the director for Universiade Shenzhen was sentenced to five years and eight months for taking bribes totaling $50,000. $33,000 was given by an engineering contractor surnamed Chen in exchange for a stadium-affiliated project.

An Xiaoyu, vice-president of Sichuan University, is being investigated over disciplinary violations. Discipline authorities didn’t release details on his wrongdoings. He was suspected of abusing his position while overseeing the university’s logistics and construction projects.

You Bowen, former deputy manager of Nanjing Tap Water General Company was sentenced to ten years in prison for accepting cash and property worth $266,798. You was convicted of seeking benefits for companies in construction project bidding and fund payment.

Fu Xiaoguang, deputy director of Yabuli Resort Development Command in Heilongjiang province, has been demoted from provincial level to department level for spending public funds on lavish banquets. On July 23, Fu and his relatives traveled to a Jingpo Lake scenic spot in Mudanjiang for sightseeing. During the trip, Meng Qing’an, director of the local forestry bureau, died after drinking excessive alcohol while at the banquet with Fu.
