Two health officials in Zhejiang’s Yuhuan County have been charged with bribery. Former deputy director of the local Food and Drug Administration, Xia Jichun and former disciplinary inspection chief of local Public Health Bureau, Yang Shengping allegedly accepted bribes from Zhejiang Yuhuan Medicine Co., Ltd to help the company win drug procurement contracts for local hospitals. The crimes were exposed by whistleblowers after the company’s business expanded to monopolize local drug market. http://news.xinhuanet.com

Zheng Xuehui, former deputy chairman of People’s Congress in Yuanhua Township, Zhejiang province, was sentenced to nine years in prison for soliciting $65,348 in bribes. In charge of managing the local mining industry, Zheng solicited bribes from two companies in return for extending mining permits for them. Zheng confessed to the crimes last December. http://fanfu.people.com.cn

Ding Bo, the former president of a traditional Chinese medicine hospital in Hunan’s Hanshou County, was sentenced to ten years in prison for taking $26,139 in bribes from Zeng Tianchi, a medical-device salesman working for Hunan Haihui Industry & Trade Co., Ltd, to help the company win the bid of hospital procurement contracts. http://roll.sohu.com 

Yang Dacai, former head of the Shaanxi provincial Work Safety Administration nicknamed “Brother Watch” on the internet, has been put on trial for taking bribes and holding a large amount of unexplained assets. Yang was photographed smiling at the scene of a fatal traffic accident killing 36 people last August and later found wearing luxury timepieces on various occasions, triggering disciplinary investigations into his personal assets. He was expelled from the party in February this year. http://blogs.wsj.com

Former party chief of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (Jiangxi province), Wang Guoyan, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for taking $980,199 in bribes from construction contractors involved in campus expansion projects. Wang was stripped of his post and expelled from the party last October. http://fanfu.people.com.cn 

Chen Jianzhen, former deputy chairman of a real estate development company affiliated with the state-owned Guangdong Xinguang International Group, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for taking $954,186 in bribes. Most of Chen’s bribes came from the chairman of Guangzhou-based Yueliang Trade Co., Ltd, a private contractor who obtained a real estate development project under Chen’s help. http://informationtimes.dayoo.com
