Guo was convicted of taking bribes totaling $963,843 to help construction contractors secure land deals and reduce taxes. Former deputy secretary-general of Beihai municipal government in Guangxi province, Meng Rongzhan, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined $8,205 for bribery and bid-rigging. Meng colluded with several government officials and with Guangxi Jainjing Construction Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd to manipulate the bidding for construction projects. Zhou Guozhong, deputy director of Cili County’s party committee office has been suspended from his post for hosting an extravagant banquet to celebrate his son’s birth. He accepted gifts and money from guests, which included government officials. Zhou Xing, head of the Road Management Section under the Traffic Bureau of Mianyang city, has been placed under investigation along with nine others for alleged power abuse, dereliction of duty and bribery linked to the collapse of the Panjiang Bridge on July 9. Liao Shaohua, the party secretary of Zunyi city in Guizhou Province, is being investigated for violating party discipline and laws. Details of Liao’s wrongdoing have not been announced. Some local officials have linked Liao to Hong Jinzhou, the Kaili city mayor who was placed under investigation for corruption in May. Beijing Borui Julong Computer Technology Co., Ltd has been fined $131,261 for offering $60,216 in bribes to Sui Yagang, the former deputy director of Beijing Traffic Management Bureau to secure government IT projects. The company’s former legal representative, only identified as Shen, was convicted of bribery but exempted from any criminal penalty.
