Cai Feng, former medical insurance division chief at the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Wenzhou (Zhejiang province), was tried for taking $18,248 in bribes from local hospitals and drug stores seeking medical insurance contracts. He reportedly received bribes from Wenzhou Heping Plastic Hospital, Wenzhou Yizheng Medicine Chain Store Co., Ltd, and Wenzhou Yanshengtang Medicine Chain Store Co., Ltd.

He Jing, former deputy public security chief of Guangzhou (Guangdong province), will go on trial for taking bribes totalling $1.1 million. In return for bribes he shielded illegal recreation centres from prosecution, helped criminals dodge punishment and helped his subordinates get promotions. He is also accused of keeping several mistresses.

Wu Zhiqiang, former deputy chairman of the Political Consultative Conference in Guangdong’s Foshan city, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for taking $879,779 in bribes. The general manager of Foshan Shunde District Shenghu Investment Co., Ltd, Luo Zuohong had bribed Wu to attain project approvals and to be elected as a Political Consultative Conference member.

Former party chief of Guangdong’s Maoming city, Luo Yinguo, has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for taking over $3.3 million in bribes and owning $8.1 million in unexplained assets. Luo reportedly offered favours to bribe-givers seeking promotions, project approvals and land distribution. 61 officials were investigated for having connections to Luo. Luo’s wife Zou Jifang also received a 6-year sentence for bribery.

Zheng Songbiao, the deputy mayor of Guangdong’s Jieyang city, has been dismissed from public office and expelled from the party following bribery allegations. Zheng is suspected of taking bribes during the construction of Chaoshan Airport. 

Former deputy head of Ledong County in Hainan province, Shi Chunhai, is on trial for offering assistance to 21 enterprises and individuals in exchange for bribes worth over $592,866. The enterprises involved consisted mostly of real estate investors, namely, Ledong Dayuan Investment Co., Ltd, Ledong Fuan Real Estate Development Co., Ltd, Jindu Industry Investment Co., Ltd and Hainan Yatai Industry Co., Ltd. 

Former deputy party chief of Humen Township in Foshan (Guangdong province), Zheng Minhua, was tried for accepting $181,203 in bribes from Dongguan Lijun Industrial Co., Ltd to favour the company in a local demolition project and facilitate project approvals.
