Summary: Two directors of Indoguna Utama, Juardi Effendi and Arya Abdi Effendi, were arrested with one billion rupiah (US $101,000), allegedly a bribe for Lutfi Hasan Ishaaq. The bribe was allegedly intended to influence officials to increase Indoguna’s beef import quota. Many Australian importers – including Mulwarra Export, part-owned by Indoguna founder Elizabeth Liman – use Indoguna to ship beef into Indonesia. Suswono, who implemented the quotas in 2011, has denied any involvement in the bribery scheme.
