Wu Yongwen, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial People’s Congress, has reportedly been placed under investigation after his mistress’s husband told authorities Wu took bribes and led an “indecent life.” This is the second corruption probe into a deputy-minister level official to be initiated since the 18th CPC National Congress in November 2012. Officials from Shangrao County’s Qingshui Township’s Qianwang Village (Jiangxi Province) were alleged to have celebrated moving into a new office with a luxurious feast. Three officials have reportedly lost their positions as a result of the investigation. Yang Chunmei, former manager of Beijing Huairou County Service Company and Beijing Kangsheng Service Company, got a life sentence for misappropriating assets and land worth more than $3 million, and embezzling more than $57,000 in cash during the company’s 2001 restructuring process. Former Xingtu County (Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province) Land and Resources Bureau director, identified only as Ye, was sentenced to twelve and a half years for taking bribes of $147,828 and embezzling $21,545. Former Xinjiang Shenhua Mining Co. Ltd. chairman Liu Bokun has been charged for corruption involving US$5.8 million. Liu allegedly embezzled $4.4 million, which he spent on mansions, jades, and investments in other companies. He was also charged with conducting illegal mining at Hongshaquan mine (Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region) in exchange for bribes from Beijing Fengding Investment Management Co.
