China leader warns name droppers

Days after being appointed to China’s seven-member Politburo Standing Committee, Zhang Gaoli (pictured) publicly pledged not to abuse his new position or let others abuse it on his behalf.

The former Tianjin Party chief said, “From now on, if there is anyone who claims to be my family, relatives, friends, or my colleague and quotes my name, no matter whether it’s true or false, I have three instructions: Do not host them, do not provide convenience, and do not do anything for them.”

Zhang also called for authorities to supervise him and his activities as he transitions to higher office.
