_____________
The original “five generals” of Chinese culture—Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, and Huang Zhong—were immortalized in the 14th-century novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong.
These mythologically embellished figures from Chinese history are renowned to this day for their bravery, loyalty, and success on the battlefield.
Their status in China is such that the term “five generals” is commonly applied to the five greatest achievers in almost any endeavor.
While preparing the China Anti-Corruption Handbook, we asked ourselves: Who are the “five generals” of anti-corruption in China today?
We surveyed data from every province to locate the “hot spots” of anti-corruption enforcement for 2011. Then we researched the top anti-corruption officials in each area.
Coming up: China’s modern-day five generals of anti-corruption enforcement.
