Who Will Crack The Top Ten?

Samuel Rubenfeld of the Wall Street Journal said this week that Avon is talking to the DOJ and SEC about settlement. The company has already spent about $280 million on its internal investigation, Rubenfeld said.

If that’s an indication of what’s coming, any final deal with the feds is likely to make it onto our top ten list. The ‘smallest’ settlement there is Panalpina’s at $81.8 million.

Another top-ten candidate is French oil giant Total SA. It said last week it has reserved €316 million ($387 million) for a U.S. settlement. That would land it fifth on the top ten list.

(In June, Total said it might fight FCPA charges. Not likely, we said.)

Alcoa and Weatherford were on our 2011 Watch List as top-ten candidates. So were the pharmas, Hewlett-Packard, and Aon, among others.

_____________

Here’s the current top ten list:

1. Siemens (Germany): $800 million in 2008.

2. KBR / Halliburton (USA): $579 million in 2009.

3. BAE (UK): $400 million in 2010.

4. Snamprogetti Netherlands B.V. / ENI S.p.A (Holland/Italy): $365 million in 2010.

5. Technip S.A. (France): $338 million in 2010.

6. JGC Corporation (Japan) $218.8 million in 2011.

7. Daimler AG (Germany): $185 million in 2010.

8. Alcatel-Lucent (France): $137 million in 2010.

9. Magyar Telekom / Deutsche Telekom (Hungary /Germany): $95 million in 2011.

10. Panalpina (Switzerland): $81.8 million in 2010.
