Former Beijing Yanqing County Department of Transportation Director Wang Xinliang was sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Beijing Yanqing County People’s Court for taking bribes of 900,000 yuan (US$140,940). Among the ex-official’s partners in crime was Wang Liusheng, legal representative of Beijing Longqingsheng Construction Company, who paid Wang to extend the company’s contractor status with the transport department and also award development projects to them.  http://www.jfdaily.com/a/3401727.htm

Yang Youming, formerly Xinjiang’s Nonferrous Geological Exploration Bureau Director, was sentenced to 19 years by the Urumqi City Intermediate People’s Court for embezzling 12.9 million yuan (US$2.02m) and taking bribes of 5.46 million yuan (US$854,927) in exchange for development contracts. http://legal.gmw.cn/2012-06/13/content_4336404.htm

Ministry of Finance official Yu Hongzhong was given 16 years by a court in Beijing for collecting bribes of more than 1.2 million yuan (US$188,000) in his capacity as the deputy director of the ministry’s Online Information Center. Zhou Caifen, Head of Dengfeng Streets Office in Guangzhou’s Yuexiu District (Guangdong Province), given a five-year jail term by the Guangzhou Huangpu District Court for taking bribes of more than 170,000 yuan (US$26,619), had his appeal rejected by the Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court. The Party branch secretary of Chuzhou City Nanqiao District’s Hongpan Management District Hongmiao Village (Anhui Province) was last week officially charged by the Nanqiao District Procuratorate for corruption. Feng Shiru, former deputy director of Yangjiang City (Guangdong Province) Public Security Bureau, was given a life sentence by Yangjiang Intermediate People’s Court for taking seven million yuan (US$1 million) in cash bribes and 4.5 million yuan (US$704,385) in assets since being promoted to the post in 1995. Feng received bribes from two ringleaders of underground casinos, and he would tip them off ahead of a police operation. Former deputy director of the Shanghai Planning, Land and Resources Administrative Bureau Hu Jun appeared in Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court on charges of taking more than seven million yuan (US$1.1 million) in bribes. Prosecutors said Hu accepted bribes from six companies and individuals when he was in charge of planning in Shanghai’s Jing’an District, Chongming County and the municipal bureau between March 2002 and February 2012. http://english.eastday.com/e/120619/u1a6636774.html
