The Africa Sting Acquittal

Since we posted John O’Shea’s order of acquittal earlier today, let’s do another.

In late December, Africa sting defendant Stephen G. Giordanella was acquitted after U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon ruled there was insufficient evidence to sustain an FCPA conspiracy conviction.

Conspiracy was the only charge Giordanella faced. So Judge Leon’s ruling amounted to a complete acquittal for him. The order was signed this month.

Five other defendants also had the conspiracy charge dismissed but face substantive FCPA counts and are still on trial.

Giordanella was represented by Carlton Fields partners Stephen J. Bronis and Paul A. Calli.
