We’re saddened today by news of the passing of Brian Smith, formerly our law partner for many years.
Brian was many things, including one of the best lawyers we’ve ever known. He took time with people and showed a genuine interest in them, and that’s how he practiced law. Even his written advice sounded like Brian — authentic, smart, concerned, generous, and not too formal. Many times we showed newer lawyers Brian’s work as an example of the best kind of lawyering.
In its tribute to Brian, Goodwin Proctor, his current firm, said:
Brian approached his life and career with an open mind, a giving heart and a quest for challenge. He was passionate about his work and cared deeply about his clients success. He advised many of the top hotel companies in the world, and his practice involved complex cross-border transactions in Asia, Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East. With his unflappable demeanor, high ethical standards and business savvy, Brian exemplified the best of the legal profession.
