He reminds me of . . . . Deputy Barney Fife — the brilliant creation of actor Don Knotts — is an American original. Like many of his countrymen, Barney somehow combines misplaced self-confidence with a complete lack of self awareness, wrapped in a sweet disposition. It’s all on display in this clip in which Barney “recites from memory” the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution.
